Small necks, up to about 16", use XS or S with a slim 5/8" strap. Bigger necks, from 13" to 28", use M or L with a 1" strap. Because of the overlaps, some dogs fit two sizes, so read on.

How to take the number
Wrap a soft tape around the neck at the spot where the collar will sit and keep room for two fingers. Take the reading twice for accuracy.
Tie-breakers
Two sizes fit: the larger leaves more room to adjust.
Dog still growing: pick the size with headroom, and recheck every few weeks.
Fluffy coat: measure over the fur, since that is where the collar will rest.
