What “orthopedic” legally means in the US
Nothing specific. There is no federal definition of the term for pet products, no consumer-protection standard that constrains its use, no industry norm defining a minimum construction, and no certification body that audits the claim.
Compare that with terms that are constrained. Foam itself is testable under ASTM D3574, the standard test methods for flexible cellular urethane foams — the same methods used across the mattress industry.
